This Privacy Policy explains how The Pickleball Index Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use thepickleballindex.com (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address and password (your password is cryptographically hashed and never stored in plaintext)
• Display name you choose during registration

Profile Information

You may optionally provide additional profile details including:

• Home city, state, and geographic coordinates (for proximity-based search results)
• Date of birth, gender, and DUPR ID
• Skill level (self-rated or DUPR rating)
• Play preferences such as preferred style, indoor/outdoor preference, event types, and search radius

User-Generated Content

We collect content you submit through the Service, including:

• Listing submissions (events, gear, pros, clubs)
• Claims on person or organization profiles
• Bookmarked and saved listings
• Images uploaded for listings or flyers

Automatically Collected Information

When you use the Service, we automatically collect limited technical data necessary to operate the platform, including session authentication tokens and page view counts on listings (used to calculate trending content).

If you consent to analytics cookies, we also collect anonymized usage data through Google Analytics 4, including pages visited, session duration, general geographic region (country or city level), and device/browser type. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to personally identify you. No analytics data is collected unless you accept the cookie consent banner.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Create and manage your account
• Personalize your experience (e.g., showing nearby events based on your location preferences)
• Process subscription payments through Stripe
• Geocode addresses you provide to display listings on maps and enable proximity search
• Generate search embeddings to improve search result relevance
• Parse and extract event data from text, images, or URLs you submit using AI
• Send transactional communications related to your account (e.g., password resets)
• Enforce our Terms of Service and protect against misuse

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the platform. Each service receives only the minimum data necessary for its function:

• Supabase (hosted on AWS) -- Authentication, database hosting, file storage, and serverless edge functions. Your account data, profile information, and uploaded files are stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
• Stripe -- Payment processing for paid subscription tiers. Stripe handles all credit card information directly. We never receive, store, or have access to your full card number. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• Google Maps Platform -- Geocoding addresses (converting street addresses into latitude/longitude coordinates) so we can display listings on maps and calculate distances for proximity search.
• Google Gemini -- AI-powered extraction of event and organization data from text, images, and URLs that users submit. The content you submit for AI extraction is sent to Google's Gemini API for processing.
• Google Analytics (Google LLC) -- Website usage analytics. If you consent to analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects anonymized data about how you use the Service (pages visited, session duration, general location, device type). Google may process this data on servers in the United States. See Google's Privacy Policy and Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• CARTO -- Map tile rendering. CARTO serves the visual map tiles displayed on our map views.
• OpenStreetMap -- Underlying geographic data used in conjunction with CARTO map tiles.

4. Cookies and Session Data

We use cookies for authentication, session management, and -- with your consent -- analytics. When you log in, Supabase sets session cookies to keep you authenticated as you navigate the Service. These are functional cookies required for the Service to work.

If you accept analytics cookies via the consent banner shown on your first visit, Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) to collect anonymized usage data. These cookies are not set unless you provide consent. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Third-party services (CARTO for map tiles, Stripe during checkout) may set their own cookies as part of their operation. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for details.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the third-party service providers listed in Section 3, and only as necessary to operate the Service. We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of The Pickleball Index Inc., our users, or the public.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data and profile information for as long as your account is active. Listing submissions, claims, and other user-generated content remain on the platform unless you request their removal. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal profile data. Some content you contributed (such as published listings) may remain in anonymized form.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information in your profile
• Delete your account and personal data
• Export your personal data in a portable format

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

9. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), cryptographic password hashing, row-level security policies on our database, and secure authentication token management. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your data to industry standards.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
